Healthcare.gov Enrollment Resources

Missed Open Enrollment? There may still be time to enroll!

The Unexpected Situations Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is available to individuals and families impacted by a natural disaster who live (or lived during the event) in a county that is eligible to apply for “individual assistance” or “public assistance” by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

This SEP is available until 60 days after the end of the FEMA-designated incident period. People can choose to have coverage start the first day of the month following plan selection or can request a retroactive effective date based on when they would have selected a plan if not for the disaster.

Because the Tropical Storm Helene FEMA-designated incident period ended December 18, 2024, community members impacted by Helene must enroll by February 16, 2025, to utilize the Special Enrollment Period.

Medicaid Resources

More North Carolinians qualify for Medicaid than ever before under Medicaid Expansion. Many Western North Carolinians will be newly eligible for Medicaid due to job losses or changes in circumstances because of Hurricane Helene. If you’ve previously applied for Medicaid and been denied, apply again!

Medicaid Enrollment is open year-round, so it’s not too late to apply!

We at the NC Navigator Consortium understand that this is a difficult time for many North Carolinians who have felt the impact of Hurricane Helene, and we are here to support you. In your appointment with your Navigator, we can help connect you with other disaster relief support services.
